  1. I think they might have been dressed up for an Ag Day or something. They definitely lived on the farm. It is cute to find these old pictures of kids with their pets.

    • Thanks Doda; now that I’m looking at these photos, I’m finding animals in many of them. I guess that reflects the farm upbringing my partner’s family had. My family has generally been urban-living.

    • 🙂 I think it’s almost a rite of passage for rural kids in NZ (even now) to raise a lamb. They still have calf and lamb competitions are rural school fairs.

      • I’m sure they do. I’ve always been slightly uncomfortable with the fact that the kids are playing with their food in a way. But on the other hand, if people are going to eat meat, I believe it’s important to have a real connection with it. Much easier to have compassion towards animals if they aren’t just reduced to burgers. 🙂
